About Us
The founders of the Subscriber Profile User Group (SPUG) are united by a common goal – to work together, sharing best practice to speed the introduction of a fully open, unified subscriber profile store at the heart of the converged network. Each member of the group has its own commercial objectives, deployment timescales, and of course, starting points. But one constant remains: we firmly believe in the concept of the data layer within the core network, without which CSPs will struggle to succeed in the new generation world.
Our Founders
The Subscriber Profile User Group was founded by some of the communication industry’s most innovative and prominent service providers, and our executive board members number among its most progressive thinkers:
- Ray Barghi, SPUG Chairperson
- Joachim Horn, Chief Technology Officer, T-Mobile International AG
- Graham Baxter, Chief Technology Officer, 3 UK
- Kathryn Walker, Chief Network Officer, Sprint Nextel
- Iyad Tarazi, Vice President of Network Development, Sprint Nextel
Member operators include: Airtel Bharti, AIS, 3, Sprint, T-Mobile, Vodafone
Our Aims & Objectives
The group aims to provide direction to communication service providers on how to create, deploy and manage a unified subscriber profile in the core network, identifying lead application areas, common pit-falls and crucially providing a guide to infrastructure and application vendors when developing new products.
The inaugural meeting of the Subscriber Profile User Group in June 2007 laid out the principles of the organisation and set in motion a range of initiatives - such as defining the toolset around a centralised data repository, and an IOT application programme. We will continue to build on these with the help of both new and established members.
